It is time to start interviewing and selecting students for the High School Scholarship programme at St Johns College for 2014.  We went to do presentations to the grade 9’s at the schools in the  greater Coffee Bay area.  We visited Pato Junior Secondary School, Mathokazini Junior Secondary School and the ‘new’ high school at Mapuzi called Tylenzima. About 160 students attended the presentations and were very interested in hearing about the High School Scholarship programme.

We currently only have sponsorship for 3 students from 2014 and we really would like to increase this number! We would like to give more rural students the opportunity of attaining an academic grade 12 pass, as it opens doors for them to tertiary education, which is a gift for life!

The ‘new’ high school, Tylinzima, is currently being housed at the Mapuzi Further Education and Training College in two classrooms.  There are about 100 grade 9 students in each class. At the end of this year, the school has to move out of the College’s premises and they currently have no-where to go…………our High School Scholarship programme really needs your help!

If you would like to play a part in helping to give a rural student the great opportunity of a High School Scholarship, why not rally together some friends/family or work colleagues and share the costs. You will get a letter from your student each term and a copy of their report twice a year.

Please contact us on happydays@sustainablecoffeebay.org.za for further information and costs.

Thank you – yours in education
